Classified Staff Training Committee

The Classified Staff Training Committee is made up of the following representatives:

  • Five classified staff representatives, elected by the WPEA
  • One non-bargaining unit staff member, appointed position
  • Administrator/appointed Ex Officio

What does the committee do?

  • Approves Classified Staff Training Funds Requests
  • Sponsors and coordinates on-campus professional development activities

Funding Process


The President’s Education Fund for Classified Staff exists to support classified staff with the cost of a degree and certificate-seeking tuition, related course materials, and other professional development opportunities.


Classified staff are eligible to receive up to $1000 per quarter for fall, winter and spring quarters, totaling a maximum of $3,000 for the academic year.Summer quarter courses are not eligible for reimbursement. Students attending semester programs are eligible to receive up to $1500 per semester, totaling no more than $3,000 for the academic year. Summer sessions are not eligible for reimbursement.

The 2022-23 President’s Education Fund for Classified Staff totals $30,000. Requests for funds are reviewed by Executive Cabinet for final approval.


Tuition reimbursement is limited to no more than 50% of the cost of tuition paid by the employee. Related course materials are reimbursable up to 100% of the cost. Receipts are required for both tuition and course material reimbursements. Proof of course completion is required for both tuition reimbursement and reimbursement of course materials.

Eligible classified employees are required to submit for reimbursement at the end of each quarter or semester following the posting of their final grades. When submitting for reimbursement, please send your tuition and materials receipts with a copy of your unofficial transcript to Heather McBreen at hmcbreen@highline.edu


Applications for the Classified Staff Training Funds are accepted using the form below. Award notifications will be sent to applicants. All eligible employees are required to reapply on an annual basis. In the case of limited funding, applicability of the degree or certificate to the applicants work at Highline College will be taken into consideration.

IMPORTANT NOTE: All reimbursement requests must be processed prior to the close of the fiscal year. Requests received after June 25, 2023 will not be eligible for reimbursement. It is the responsibility of the award recipient to submit their reimbursement request, including all applicable documentation, to Heather McBreen in advance of the deadline. Exceptions to this deadline will not be made.

Funding is also available for both in-person and virtual education opportunities such as conferences, workshops, etc. Please reserve requests for conference support from this fund for when division funds and grant support cannot be identified.
